Leaderboard: show rank CIs for unranked entries and give intervals their own column - #5287
Follow-up to #5206 (bootstrapped 95% confidence intervals on tournament leaderboards).
Unranked entries get a rank interval. Entries that don't take a rank (excluded bots, aggregates such as the Community Prediction) only showed the ⓘ tooltip; they now show the rank interval beside it. The backend already computes it for them: assign_confidence_intervals_ ranks every entry against the rank-taking entries on each resample, so the interval is where the entry would have placed. The point estimate stays hidden, which matches the existing tooltip text ("This is where they would have placed if they were eligible").
Intervals move to their own column. The interval was an inline suffix on the Rank cell (and, in the advanced view, the Total Score cell), so its horizontal position shifted with the width of the number before it (9 (6–14) vs 10 (7–22)). Each interval is now a separate column that still reads as a parenthetical beside its value: the header is (95% CI ⓘ) and the cells (lower–upper), in the same small text as before, left-aligned under the header and with the padding between the value and its interval tightened.
Frontend
project_leaderboard_table/table_row.tsx: IntervalSuffix becomes Interval, rendered in its own Td after Rank and, in the advanced view, after Total Score. The Rank cell now renders only the medal and the rank or excluded tooltip.
project_leaderboard_table/index.tsx: separate (95% CI ⓘ) headers; the empty-state colSpan accounts for the new columns.
confidence_interval_tooltip.tsx: same (95% CI ⓘ) label, now the content of its own header cell.
Scores FAQ (en + pt): one sentence saying unranked entries show where they would have placed.
No backend or translation-key changes. Leaderboards without intervals (manual, or finalized before #5206 and not recomputed) render exactly as before.
Test plan
bun run lint (eslint + tsc) and bun run format:check on a fresh bun install --frozen-lockfile
Static mock of the table: intervals left-align under the header across 1–3 digit bounds; excluded and aggregate rows get an interval; a row with no interval data leaves the cell empty
Preview deploy, Metaculus Cup Fall 2026 leaderboard at desktop width: default view shows Rank (95% CI ⓘ) | Forecaster | Total Score | Prize with the intervals left-aligned under the header; the excluded bot row shows ⓘ in Rank and (1–173) beside it; advanced view adds (95% CI ⓘ) after Total Score ((39–338), (-37–401), …)
Phone width (not checked yet): the CI column is not sticky, so on horizontal scroll it slides under the pinned Rank/Forecaster cells like the other columns
Rank and score confidence intervals now appear in separate leaderboard columns for easier scanning.
Entries that are ineligible for ranking still show a Rank confidence interval indicating where they would have placed if eligible; this is also clarified in the tournament score FAQs.
…eir own column
Entries that don't take a rank (excluded bots, aggregates) now show the
bootstrapped rank interval the backend already computes for them, next to
the existing excluded/aggregate tooltip. Rank and Total Score intervals
move out of their value cells into separate "95% CI" columns, with each
bound in an equal-width slot so the dashes line up down the column instead
of shifting with the width of the number before them.

Walkthrough
The leaderboard now displays rank and score confidence intervals in separate table cells. Column counts and padding account for these cells. The FAQ text clarifies that ineligible entries still receive Rank confidence intervals showing their hypothetical placement.

A rabbit checks the columns in a row, Rank bounds sit where rank bounds go. Score bounds find a cell beside, The headers keep each value tied. “Even excluded ranks have a place!” The FAQ tells it with a trace.
Rank and Forecaster both stick at left-0 so the Forecaster cell pins over
Rank on horizontal scroll; a third sticky cell between them would only be

Exclude incomplete intervals from width calculation.
maxBoundChars counts one-sided bounds, but Interval omits the same row. If another entry enables the CI column, the one-sided bound can widen every interval slot even though it produces no visible interval. Filter incomplete rank and score pairs before flattening the values passed to maxBoundChars.

The interval columns stay separate so the bounds stack, but the header reads
"(95% CI ⓘ)" and the cells "(lower–upper)", in the smaller text the inline
suffix used, with the gap between the value and its interval tightened so
each pair reads as one.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5.1 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Drop the equal-width bound slots that lined the dashes up; they pushed the
intervals right of the header and left a widening gap after the rank. The
interval is plain "(lower–upper)" text now, left-aligned in its column so
it sits under the "(95% CI ⓘ)" header, and the formatters module folds
back into the row.
