News: Ambarella S3L owners wanted, in all three languages - #558

S3L firmware builds and streams on one camera, but the image CI publishes carries no board device tree, so it is not for flashing. What moves S3L forward now is knowing which cameras exist, and the report page already takes ipctool's output from stock firmware. The post asks for that, and says plainly not to flash the nightly image.

A news post asking owners of Ambarella S3L cameras to send an ipctool report from stock firmware, in English, Russian and Chinese.
Why this, and why not a download
An audit of what the site says about Ambarella found:
/camerassays "Not available — in progress" and points to the chat. Nothing asks owners for anything, or says what works./cameras/reporttakesipctool's output from stock firmware, overugetand telnet. Theipctoolserved atopenipc.org/ipctool(4e28973) includes ambarella: detect the SoC from the machine string ipctool#267's Ambarella detection.s3l_ultimatefrom OpenIPC/firmware carries no board device tree (# CONFIG_ARM_APPENDED_DTB is not set), and the one camera tested, an IP4M-1026E, needs the DTB from ambarella: s3l: Amcrest IP4M-1026E, with the board DTB appended to the uImage linux#178. So the post asks people not to flash the nightly image.Every factual claim comes from a public PR: firmware #2781, #2782, #2785, #2787 and #2788, linux#177 and #178, and the device list in firmware#2767. Where a claim couldn't be checked, the post says less: it gives no release year for the chip, doesn't say ipctool tells S3L from S3Lm, and names camera models rather than firmware version ranges, since Dahua uses the same version numbers on other chips. It says the IP4M-1026E result came from the contributor's own board profile and streamer, not from Majestic.

The catalogue entry for S3L (
data/catalogue/ambarella.yml) is left as it is, deliberately:linux_filenameisopenipc.ambarella-s3l-nor-lite.tgz, a name that never existed. The availability code resolves it to boardambarella, so the S3L row will keep saying "none" even after the nightly publishesopenipc.s3l-nor-ultimate.tgz. Correcting it would make the row offer that image as a download, the one this post asks people not to flash. It should change once a board profile boots from flash.build_status_urlpoints toambarella-s3l_images.yml, a workflow that doesn't exist. The same is true of every per-SoC badge I checked (xm530_images.yml, for example). OpenIPC/firmware has onlybuild.yml, so that's a site-wide fix, not an S3L one.Checks
