Match CPython remainder for subnormal inputs - #21
On Windows x64, the native CRT remainder gives the wrong answer for some subnormal inputs. For example, with t = float.fromhex("0x1p-1074"):
math.remainder(12*t, 23*t)
CPython returns -11*t (-0x0.000000000000bp-1022), but pymath's native delegation returns +12*t (0x0.000000000000cp-1022). Calling ucrtbase.dll!remainder directly reproduced the latter result. RustPython Windows x64 inherits the discrepancy; the tested RustPython x86 build returns the correct answer for this example.
Changes
Port CPython's m_remainder, keeping the existing math_2 wrapper for error conversion.
Compare the fmod remainder with its complement rather than half the divisor, avoiding subnormal rounding/underflow. Preserve ties-to-even, signed zeros, input NaN ordering, and infinite-input handling.
Remove unused native/pure-Rust libm remainder wrappers and the FFI declaration.
Add deterministic subnormal cases with every operand-sign combination and a property test comparing random subnormal bit patterns with CPython. Existing Cartesian EDGE_VALUES, halfway-even, and signed-zero tests remain unchanged.
New deterministic regression fails on the unchanged implementation and passes after this fix.
cargo test: all 147 tests pass against CPython 3.14.2 (the CI Python version series).
cargo test --release: all 147 tests pass against CPython 3.14.2.
PROPTEST_CASES=10000 cargo test remainder and its release equivalent: all six remainder tests pass against CPython 3.13.10, including 10,000 general and 10,000 subnormal comparison cases per profile.
Focused pre-commit review compared the implementation with CPython and found no blockers.
An initial full-suite run against CPython 3.13.10 had four unrelated cmath edge-test failures (log/acosh/tan/tanh); all disappear when using the CI's CPython 3.14 series. No cmath code is changed here.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Improved remainder calculations for edge cases, including very small values, zero divisors, and infinite operands.
API Changes
Removed the standalone public remainder function. Use the remainder operation available through the existing math interface instead.
Port CPython m_remainder rather than delegating to the native remainder function, which returns an incorrect result for subnormal inputs on Windows x64. Preserve ties-to-even, signed zeros, NaN propagation, and domain errors through math_2.
Add signed subnormal regression cases and CPython-comparison property tests. Implementation, investigation, validation, and review assisted by Codex.

remainder now uses a local calculation instead of libm’s implementation. The public wrappers and FFI declaration were removed. New tests check selected and generated subnormal operands against Python’s math.remainder.

Local calculation and regression coverage src/math/misc.rs, src/m.rs, src/m_rust.rs, src/m_sys.rs
src/math/misc.rs now calculates the remainder locally, including handling for zero divisors and non-finite operands. The public wrappers and FFI declaration were removed. Regression and property-based tests compare subnormal cases with Python’s math.remainder.
No merge-blocking defect is established. The additional mixed-scale regression case would improve confidence but need not block merging after normal checks.

The new proptest_remainder_subnormal (src/math/misc.rs:637-647) draws only subnormal operands, and regression_remainder_subnormal_cases (src/math/misc.rs:512-535) scales only small integers by a subnormal tiny. No added or existing test checks a normal dividend with a subnormal divisor that produces a nonzero remainder, such as remainder(1.0, 23 * tiny), which equals -10 * tiny. Add this case to the test module:

Add a regression test in the remainder test module for a normal dividend and
subnormal divisor with a nonzero remainder. Use `tiny` from the smallest
positive subnormal, test `remainder(1.0, 23.0 * tiny)` against the exact `-10.0
* tiny` bit pattern, and validate the case with `test_remainder`.
