Libportal is used by more than 50 apps on Flathub (some of the results are patches). It has been rejected from freedesktop SDK.

This is my first attempt to create a shared module, so please correct me.

@CodedOre @barthalion do we want this?

I think it could be neat

fwiw I say yes. It's a pretty commonly used library for interacting with XDP, and it makes more sense to have here than in the SDK, since it's tied to some graphics libraries (GTK and QT).

@ostfriese4 if you want to go through and make apps use the shared module instead of vendoring the file, that would be a nice bonus.

That was kind of my impression at first, but since ostfriese offered to create it, and thus maintain it as its submitter, then i though there was some usecase where the gnome runtime was not desired but libportal was.

They seem committed, so why not. Too late now anyway.

I would expect more apps to come out over time that don't use the GNOME runtime but want libportal.

Worst case, if the number doesn't really track above maybe ~15 ish in the somewhat near/near-ish future, we can always drop it from shared-modules.
