What is the purpose of this plugin?

Community Clusters is a layout that arranges a network so that each community forms its own visible cluster, with the clusters placed apart from each other and the nodes inside each cluster arranged by their ties.

Communities are read from a node column of your choice (default modularity_class, as created by Statistics > Modularity). If no column is given or the column does not exist, communities are detected with a built-in Leiden implementation, and the result can be saved to a community_cluster node column. Settings cover cluster pull, inter-cluster tie strength, repulsion, tie length, node spacing, scale, cooling speed, random seed and Leiden resolution. A full manual is in modules/CommunityClusters/MANUAL.md.

How to test your plugin in Gephi?

  1. Open a graph (for example Les Miserables from the Gephi samples) and run Statistics > Modularity.
  2. In the Layout panel choose "Community Clusters" and press Run. The layout stops by itself after a few hundred steps and each community appears as its own cluster.
  3. To try the built-in community detection, clear the "Cluster column" setting and run again. The detected communities are saved to a new node column community_cluster, which you can use for colouring under Appearance > Nodes > Partition.
