Fix [bot] co-author noreply matching (#5261) and PR checks after ECLA invalidation (lfx-self-serve-ops#879), close High+ security findings, disable Cypress CI - #5262
Fixes#5261 — [bot] co-author noreply addresses were rejected by the noreply regexes. Fixes linuxfoundation/lfx-self-serve-ops#879 — PR check passed on an invalidated ECLA (refs linuxfoundation/lfx-self-serve#3841).
Residual, tracked in linuxfoundation/lfx-self-serve-ops#806: the PR-check positive cache is per Lambda instance, so another warm instance can keep a cached approval for up to 3 h after an invalidation.
High+ security findings (each with foreign-caller 401/403 + entitled-caller or regression tests; no swagger/API-shape changes):
Dependabot High/Critical: lockfile bumps in cla-backend, cla-backend-go, tests/rest, tests/functional, root and utils/otel_dd_go (grpc v1.83.1) — 180/184 open alerts resolve; the 4 unfixable extract-zip alerts are dismissed.
Cypress functional CI disabled, suites kept (workflow_dispatch only; deploy-dev job gated with false &&).
Not in this PR (commented on the tickets): linuxfoundation/lfx-self-serve-ops#797, linuxfoundation/lfx-self-serve-ops#800 (Auth0 iss/aud), linuxfoundation/lfx-self-serve-ops#749, linuxfoundation/lfx-self-serve-ops#752, linuxfoundation/lfx-self-serve-ops#753.

Legacy writes now enforce authentication and object or project permissions. Offline tests cover authorization, webhook signatures, and write suppression.

Dependency and utility updates
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Package dependency and audit updates cla-backend-go/package.json, cla-backend/package.json, tests/functional/package.json, tests/rest/*, .yarn-audit-allowlist.json
Dependency constraints and frozen versions change across application and test packages. Audit allowlists document permitted findings.
Utility command and script permissions utils/copy_prod_to_dev.sh, utils/v3/generate_missing_scripts.py, utils/v4/generate_missing_scripts.py
The copy script no longer evaluates a constructed command string. Generated scripts use owner-only permissions.
Forged GitLab webhooks can reach write-capable processing, valid import runs can fail to resume, and repository moves can leave access with the wrong project. Resolve these risks before merging.

Do not treat a failed lookup as a missing admin flag.
When GetUser returns an error, the handler returns 403. A transient DynamoDB error therefore looks like a permission failure. Fail closed, but return a server error or a log entry that tells the two cases apart. A different log line is enough.

🔵 Needs a closer look
The legacy signature authorization guard still permits signers listed in individual signature ACLs to modify or delete those signatures without managerial authorization.
No open issues 🎉
1 previously missed issue
In code that hasn't changed since last review
Signer ACLs allow unauthorized signature approval or deletion
Individual signature ACLs can contain the signer: cla-backend-go/v2/sign/service.go:2965–2975 creates Gerrit ICLAs with the signer's LF username in signature_acl. This unconditional grant lets that contributor PUT signature_approved=true or signature_signed=true, or DELETE the signature, without project-manager authorization. Restrict signature-ACL authorization to company signatures; user signatures should require a project manager or admin. Add PUT/DELETE regression cases with the signer in the individual signature's ACL, including an invalidated ICLA.
Dispositions for review items that have no thread: Copilot's "signer ACLs allow unauthorized signature approval or deletion" (review body, 8300617) is fixed in b00142e (signature_acl now grants writes on company signatures only, user signatures need a CLA group manager or admin); CodeRabbit's nitpick on distinguishing a failed admin lookup from a missing admin flag (users/handlers.go) is skipped as cosmetic (the handler already fails closed with a 403). The two govulncheck checks are gated by .govulncheck-allowlist.json (standard-library and x/net advisories fixed only with Go 1.26.9, tracked as a separate toolchain change); every other check is green.
Round 3 dispositions (c76f8bf): fixed - the govulncheck filter now fails (exit 2) on an empty or truncated result file, and invalidating an acknowledgment or an individual CLA now evicts that Lambda instance's cached PR-check decisions for the contributor, the same best-effort eviction the approval-list removal already does (Copilot's "signer cache" residual). Skipped as cosmetic: pinning govulncheck instead of @latest (pre-existing; findings come from the live vulnerability DB), malformed allowlist entries (they fail closed), artifact upload robustness (the step already runs with if: always()), allowlist expiry (each note names the removal trigger and the filter reports stale entries).

Authorization-cache revocation remains incomplete, and truncated vulnerability results can pass the new filter.

Ensure revocation invalidates all cached PR approvals
cla-backend-go/v2/signatures/service.go:382
This eviction does not reliably revoke cached PR approvals. Another warm Lambda instance retains its positive entry, and GetCommitAuthorSignedStatus returns it without rechecking signatures for up to three hours (github/github_repository.go:1233–1257). Even this instance retains entries for users resolved by email when their stored GitHub fields are missing: the helper returns early, although those users can be cached under the commit's GitHub identity (lines 1338–1385).
Make positive cache reads check shared revocation state, or stop trusting cached positive authorization decisions. If retaining targeted eviction, match the cached EasyCLA UserID as well. Add regression coverage for separate checker caches and an email-resolved user with no stored GitHub identity.
Reject truncated JSON objects at EOF
scripts/govulncheck-filter.mjs:47
The parser silently drops an unfinished final JSON object. A complete config followed by a truncated called-vulnerability finding exits 0 and reports no called vulnerabilities; the complete finding exits 1. Reject an unfinished object or string at EOF so incomplete results cannot pass this filter.
Allow the exact [bot] suffix in the fallback username validator.
When the numeric lookup fails for 29139614+renovate[bot]@users.noreply.github.com, the ID-form address does not match NoreplyUserPattern. The final fallback then rejects renovate[bot] because GithubUsernameRegex allows only letters, digits, and hyphens. The co-author remains unresolved and can trigger the CLA Missing ID path.
Keep the existing validation and allow only the exact [bot] suffix.

Round 4 dispositions (e8238f4): fixed - cached PR-check decisions are now evicted by the invalidated user's EasyCLA id as well (covers partial or missing GitHub identity on the record), the govulncheck filter fails on a truncated or corrupt result file, and the last-resort GitHub username check accepts the [bot] suffix like the noreply patterns. Invalidate positive signature decisions across Lambda instances
cla-backend-go/v2/signatures/service.go:386
This eviction only clears the cache in the process handling the invalidation. Another warm Lambda instance can retain a positive decision for up to three hours; GetCommitAuthorSignedStatus returns it without checking signatures (github/github_repository.go:1258–1282). PR checks on that instance can therefore still pass after an ICLA or ECLA is invalidated. Revalidate positive decisions against persisted revocation state, or check a shared invalidation version before accepting them. Add coverage where invalidation and the subsequent check use separate caches.
Reject non-whitespace text outside JSON objects
scripts/govulncheck-filter.mjs:35
The splitter ignores non-JSON text outside objects. For example, {"config":{}} followed by SCAN OUTPUT CORRUPTED exits 0 and prints OK, so corrupted scan output can pass this security check. Reject non-whitespace characters outside objects and add a regression test for this stream.
Reviewer sign-off: e8238f4 equals the locally reviewed tree (every round countersigned by both AIs on sha256 manifests), all 15 checks are green, all 21 review threads are resolved with a disposition, the round summaries above cover every thread-less bot note, and the full test suites of both Go modules plus the pinned lint pass on the final code - ready to merge; after the dev deploy the E2E suite from #5260 runs on dev before the prod release.

LGTM — no blockers from me.
I checked the new guards against the LFX Self Serve (Org Lens) callers: Self Serve only calls /v4 routes, and the only v4 route that gained a guard is ICLA invalidate, so none of the CCLA write paths it uses (ECLA invalidate, CLA managers, approval list, designee requests) should start returning 403. The legacy → v4 activity forward signs with the same webhook secret, so the new HMAC check holds there too. The flipped auto_ecla_test expectation plus TestGetProjectCompanyEmployeeSignaturePrefersTheValidRecord pin the invalidated-ECLA fix nicely.
Two small things, neither blocking:
PR-check cache residual.evictCachedPRCheckDecisions clears the cached decision on the instance that handled the invalidation, but another warm instance can still serve its cached "authorized" for up to the 3h TTL. Since that part is deferred, could we say "Refs" rather than "Fixes" in the description, or add a line noting the remaining window? That way whoever verifies after deploy knows a green check within 3h isn't a regression.
govulncheck filter. The 11:00Z Copilot note (non-JSON text outside the result objects passes govulncheck-filter.mjs) doesn't seem to have a reply yet. Is that intentional, or worth a quick guard?
After this deploys we'll re-run ECLA invalidation from Org Lens and confirm the PR check goes red on the next push.
Ahmed's two notes are handled in #5260 (the open E2E PR, where the govulncheck guard for text outside the result objects lands); the remaining cross-instance PR-check cache window is tracked in linuxfoundation/lfx-self-serve-ops#806 and is now noted in the description.
