Description

bumps actions/checkout from v3 to v7 in every workflow and removes .github/stale.yml, the config for the archived Probot Stale app.

• What is the current behavior (you can also link to an open issue here) ?

  All ten workflows use actions/checkout@v3, the only action they use. Every job gets this warning annotation (seen on the latest all tests run on master, 9d2d46a, and on Update clamav-unofficial-sigs to 8.0.0 #95's PR runs):

  Node.js 20 is deprecated. The following actions target Node.js 20 but are being forced to run on Node.js 24: actions/checkout@v3.

  .github/stale.yml configures the Probot Stale app. The probot/stale repository is archived, and its last push was on 2023-05-20. This repository does not use the app: it has no Stale label, which is the label the config tells the app to apply.

• What is the new behavior (if this is a feature change) ?

  All ten workflows use actions/checkout@v7. The major-version tag is kept, as before. .github/stale.yml is gone. Nothing else in the repository referred to it.

  None of the changes listed in the release notes for v4 to v7 affect these workflows:

  • v4 and v5 move the action to Node.js 20 and then Node.js 24. v5 needs runner 2.327.1 or later. The hosted runners already run checkout on Node.js 24; the warning above says so.
  • v6 stores the persisted credentials in a separate file instead of in .git/config. No job runs git after checkout.
  • v7 refuses to check out a fork's PR under pull_request_target and workflow_run. These workflows only trigger on pull_request and push.
  • submodules: recursive works the same in v7.

How has this been tested ?

Checked locally: every workflow file still parses as YAML, and the v7 tag exists and resolves to v7.0.1.

The workflows only run on a pull request to master or a push to master, so this PR's own checks are the first run on v7:

• The nine pull_request workflows pass, with no Node.js 20 warning.
