Add Email Marketing stats (client.marketingStats.get) - #170
Conversation
Decisions:
- Token-scoped like emailCampaigns: GET /api/marketing/stats takes no account id, so the getter needs no accountId
- One filter object mirroring stats.get (start_date, end_date, sending_domain_ids, sources, email_service_providers); axios serializes arrays as key[]
- Response keeps the { data } envelope, as emailCampaigns.getStats does
- MarketingStats stays its own type rather than an alias of EmailCampaignStats: rates use different denominators and the OpenAPI spec keeps separate schemas

Decisions: - Plain assignments instead of conditional spreads: axios already drops undefined params, and the known-filter pick still keeps unknown keys off the wire - 429 added to the error table: the endpoint is rate limited per account, so it is the error callers will hit most Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Decisions:
- It was the only marketing stats filter without a doc comment, and the API matches providers by exact name ("Google", not "Gmail")

Request and response contract src/types/api/marketing-stats.ts, src/lib/api/resources/MarketingStats.ts, src/__tests__/lib/api/resources/MarketingStats.test.ts |
Defines metric fields, date and filter parameters, and the response shape. The resource requests /api/marketing/stats with selected filters. Tests cover response handling, array-filter serialization, and HTTP errors. |
MailtrapClient access src/lib/api/MarketingStats.ts, src/lib/MailtrapClient.ts, src/__tests__/lib/api/MarketingStats.test.ts, src/__tests__/lib/mailtrap-client.test.ts |
Adds the marketingStats getter and its MarketingStatsBaseAPI wrapper. Tests check the wrapper and client getter. |
Example and README entry examples/marketing-stats/everything.ts, README.md |
Adds an example that logs combined, campaign-only, and filtered automation statistics for a date range. The README lists the example. |

The supplied evidence identifies no issue requiring correction before merge.

The addition reuses the existing authenticated connection and a fixed HTTPS destination. No new authorization bypass or credential-exposure path was demonstrated. Server-side account isolation and permission enforcement for the new endpoint remain unverified.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.Security review details
-
Security Blast Radius
- inferred — The newly reachable data is aggregated marketing activity for the scope the server grants the supplied token. Caller-controlled domain and source filters reach that authorization boundary. The SDK alone cannot establish the maximum account/domain scope or exclude cross-account access if server enforcement is defective.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
- observed — Normal calls through MailtrapClient use the existing Bearer-authenticated transport and fixed HTTPS destination. Filter inputs do not select the request URL or credential. Redirect following remains disabled. These controls constrain credential routing but do not prove server-side authorization.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
- observed — The new request inherits the existing ten-second timeout and shared error propagation. It does not add retry, fallback-identity or recovery behavior that would create a second authorization path.
Hardening Proposals
- proposed — Resolve the remaining authorization uncertainty with service-side integration evidence for invalid tokens, insufficient permissions and cross-account sending-domain filters. Keep this separate from SDK tests that merely simulate rejection responses.

Motivation
The API now has
GET /api/marketing/stats, which returns aggregated Email Marketing stats (campaigns and automations), the same numbers as Email Marketing → Stats Overview in the app. This adds it to the Node.js SDK. The contract is documented in mailtrap/mailtrap-openapi#62, and its Node.js code sample uses this signature.Changes
client.marketingStats.get({ start_date, end_date, sending_domain_ids?, sources?, email_service_providers? })returns the{ data }envelope with 13 fields: delivery, bounce, open, click, spam and unsubscription counts and rates, plussent_countclient.emailCampaigns, so the client needs noaccountId.sourcestakes"campaigns"or"automations". One value narrows the results to that source; omitting it, or passing both, covers all Email Marketing traffic.key[]=…, asclient.stats.getsends them.A new example,
marketing-stats/everything.ts, with a README bullet under "Email Marketing".After merge, this needs an npm release: the
get-marketing-statstool in mailtrap-mcp depends on it.How to test
You'll need an API token with at least viewer access to an account that has campaign and automation sends in the last 30 days. Create the client with
tokenonly, with noaccountId. NeedsGET /api/marketing/statslive on the API.MAILTRAP_API_KEY=… npx ts-node examples/marketing-stats/everything.ts. Each call logs adataobject with the 13 fields, and the first matches Email Marketing → Stats Overview for the same 30 days with all sources selected.sources: ["campaigns"]andsources: ["automations"]match the Stats Overview Source select;["campaigns", "automations"]equals the default.sending_domain_ids: [<id>]andemail_service_providers: ["Google"]narrow the numbers.0.sources: ["newsletters"]rejects with aMailtrapErrorwhose message isInvalid source: 'newsletters'.start_daterejects withMissing required parameter: start_date.Access forbidden(403).client.stats.get(...)(withaccountId) still returns API/SMTP sending stats.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
