AWS deprecated the nodejs20.x Lambda runtime on 2026-04-30. Remove it from the compatible runtimes of the Node.js and collector layers so new layer versions no longer advertise it. This unblocks moving to OpenTelemetry JS v3, which requires Node.js >= 22.15.0.

Should we be taking this opportunity to add node 26?

AWS deprecated the
nodejs20.xLambda runtime on 2026-04-30 (Lambda runtimes). This removes it from the compatible runtimes advertised by newly published layers:release-layer-nodejs.yml: Node.js instrumentation layerpublish-layer-collector.ymlandcollector/Makefile: collector extension layerWhy now
The OpenTelemetry JS v3 packages require
node >=22.15.0, so the pending Renovate upgrades (#2704, #2705, #2706) would produce a layer that can't run onnodejs20.x. Together with #2707, which moves the layer build to Node 22, this PR clears the way for that migration.Impact
nodejs20.xcan keep using them, and AWS doesn't block updates to those functions until 2027-08-31.nodejs20.xas compatible. This should be mentioned in the release notes.python3.10(deprecated 2026-10-31) is left alone and will be handled in a separate PR.
