Accessibility: Enable keyboard activation for entity list rows - #4193
Accessibility defect: Client, group, center, and loan list rows carry [routerLink] on a <div>. Angular's RouterLink makes such hosts tabbable (tabindex="0"), but the rows expose no link role and have no Enter/Space activation. Keyboard users can reach a row but cannot open it, and Space can scroll the page instead.
Fix: A standalone shared directive mifosxEntityRowLink, applied to all four entity rows, adds role="link", keeps tabindex="0", and activates the host's existing RouterLink destination (urlTree → router.navigateByUrl(...), preserving route parameters, query parameters, and navigation options). Enter activates; Space calls preventDefault() and activates. Key events originating in nested controls are ignored. The repeat guard is keyed to the activation key and only clears when that key is released. Mouse clicks remain RouterLink's responsibility, so there is no competing navigation path.
Wiring fix: The directive is registered in STANDALONE_SHARED_IMPORTSand re-exported from that file. Both are required: the four list components are standalone and spread that array, and AOT requires the symbol to be exported from the shared file. Without both, mifosxEntityRowLink renders as an inert HTML attribute (bare attributes do not fail Angular compilation), which is why the previous revision produced no behavior change.
Verification
Automated checks (run on f7bd0911):
Focused Jest specs: 37/37 passed (8 directive + 29 clients component) — npx jest --config jest.config.ts src/app/directives/entity-row-link.directive.spec.ts src/app/clients/clients.component.spec.ts --runInBand
npm run headers:check on the changed source files: passed
Production build (npm run build): passed
The clients component spec now renders a real row and asserts role="link" / tabindex="0" and Enter/Space navigation, so it fails if the directive is ever unregistered from the shared imports again.
Real browser evidence (Google Chrome via Playwright channel=chrome, headless, 1280×900, en-US, demo.mifos.community backend), origin/dev @ 2b46af2 vs this branch @ f7bd0911:
Scenario
Before (origin/dev)
After (this branch)
Row role
null (aria snapshot is plain text)
link (aria snapshot: - link "…")
Tab reaches row
yes (9 tabs)
yes (9 tabs, same position)
Enter
no navigation — still /#/clients after 10.2 s
/#/clients/99/general in 8.9 s
Space
no navigation, defaultPrevented: false
same destination, defaultPrevented: true, 0 scroll events
Mouse click
/#/clients/99/general
same destination
The same keyboard flow was run on all four lists against the fixed build:
List
Tab reaches row
Enter opens
Clients
yes (9 tabs)
/#/clients/99/general
Groups
yes (33 tabs)
/#/groups/1/general
Centers
yes (35 tabs)
/#/centers/3/general
Loans
yes (37 tabs)
/#/loans/73/general
In every case the row is reached with Tab only — nothing is clicked or programmatically focused — and Space (checked on clients) lands on the same route with defaultPrevented: true and zero scroll events. The nested loan-borrower link (#/clients/99/general) keeps its own activation, so nested controls are unaffected.
Why the screenshots look different now: the fix does not alter row styling, so a picture of the list itself is pixel-identical on both builds. Rather than pair two identical images, the evidence compares the end state: the baseline focused row (Enter does nothing, proven by the unchanged URL in evidence.json) versus the client page the fixed build actually opens. The remaining screenshots show the fixed build's destination for each list.
Before — focused row on origin/dev, Enter/Space inert
After — Enter on the same row opens the client page
Groups (/#/groups/1/general)
Centers (/#/centers/3/general)
Loans (/#/loans/73/general)
Evidence: committed under .github/screenshots/WEB-1374/. evidence.json is the machine-readable record: browser and backend versions, both build commits and ports, per-list DOM attributes, aria snapshots, Tab counts, before/after URLs, elapsed time, defaultPrevented, scroll events, plus each PNG's SHA-256, byte size, capture timestamp and URL at capture time. Reproduction: log in to the demo backend, open a list, press Tab until a row is focused, then Enter or Space.
Review notes
CodeRabbit's major finding was valid and is fixed: the directive is now in STANDALONE_SHARED_IMPORTS and re-exported for AOT.
The key-repeat guard now tracks the activation key and only clears on that key's keyup.
Click handling is intentionally left to RouterLink (existing behavior, out of scope). The only nested interactive control in the four rows is the loans borrower link, which already stops propagation; the directive ignores nested keyboard events, preserving that link's own activation.
Acceptance checklist
Each entity row is keyboard-focusable in the expected tab order.
Each row exposes an accessible link role.
Enter activates the row's existing route.
Space activates the row without page scrolling.
Mouse behavior is unchanged.
Nested interactive controls remain functional.
Unit, lint, and build results are reported accurately.
Before-and-after evidence reflects the actual baseline and fixed implementation.

Walkthrough
A standalone directive adds keyboard activation to entity rows that already use RouterLink. It is registered for use in templates and applied to center, client, group, and loan list rows.

Directive behavior and registration src/app/directives/entity-row-link.directive.ts, src/app/directives/entity-row-link.directive.spec.ts, src/app/directives/directives.module.ts, src/app/standalone-shared.module.ts
The directive adds link semantics and keyboard navigation through the existing RouterLink. Tests cover activation, ignored keys and nested controls, and repeated activation. The directive is added to module imports and exports.
Apply directive to entity rows src/app/centers/centers.component.html, src/app/clients/clients.component.html, src/app/groups/groups.component.html, src/app/loans/loans.component.html, src/app/clients/clients.component.spec.ts
The four list templates add the directive to their rows and retain their existing navigation bindings. Client tests check row focusability and Enter and Space navigation.

Keyboard row navigation is registered across the four lists. The nested-control click path remains untested, but this bounded gap does not by itself block merging.

Protect nested controls from row click navigation.
A bubbling click from the host’s nested <button> reaches the same-host RouterLink and can navigate. EntityRowLinkDirective filters descendant keyboard events but does not filter descendant clicks. The current assertion does not cover this path, and adding the click test alone will expose a production behavior gap. Add the bubbling-click assertion and add click protection for nested controls. The existing loan borrower link already stops propagation, so no change is needed in the inspected loan template.

Match the keyup event to the activation key.
onKeyup() clears the guard for every released key. If Enter or Space remains held, releasing another key clears activating, so a later auto-repeat keydown can call navigateByUrl again. Track the key that activated the row and reset the guard only when that key is released.

Add EntityRowLinkDirective to STANDALONE_SHARED_IMPORTS.
All four list components spread this array into their standalone imports arrays, and their templates use mifosxEntityRowLink. Importing DirectivesModule in the feature modules does not add directives to a standalone component’s template scope. Without this entry, the directive is not instantiated and keyboard activation is unavailable.
