Note
Step-by-Step Installation Guide
Fork and clone the repository, then get it running by following Installation.
git clone https://github.com/<your-username>/recode-website.git
cd recode-websiteSet up environment variables (optional):
cp .env.example .envThen add a GitHub personal access token (classic) as both
GITHUB_TOKENandDOCUSAURUS_GIT_TOKEN. It avoids GitHub API rate limits and fills the discussions, releases and sponsors pages with live data.
Warning
How to work with the .env file
The GitHub token is the only value you need for local development, and the site runs without it. Keys for Leaderboard, Algolia search, Clerk sign-in, EmailJS and Supabase are managed by the maintainers, Feel free to create your own GitHub token and put in .env file or if you working on the above function you can request to @sanjay-kv if you need dev key.
Run the site locally (Recommended):
npm install
npm run startYour application will be available at http://localhost:3000
🐳 Prefer Docker? Use this instead
Docker Compose (with hot-reload):
docker-compose upPlain Docker (no hot-reload, rebuild after changes):
docker build -t recodehive-app .
docker run -p 3000:3000 recodehive-app✅ Checklist before pushing new PR
**Create a new branch:**git checkout -b feature/your-feature-nameMake your changes and test thoroughly.
Commit your changes:
git commit -m "Add: brief description of your changes"Push to your fork:
git push origin feature/your-feature-nameSubmit a Pull Request with a detailed description of your changes
Tip
Production Build
The build first fetches releases, sponsors and community PRs from GitHub, so it needs network access. Set the tokens from .env to avoid rate limits.
npm run build
npm run serveNote
