Night shift report

WHY THIS MATTERS: This is a quiet policy change for admins. The docs used to say that setting forceLoginMethod: "console" stopped Claude Code offering the keyless Console sign-in, which signs a developer in with an Anthropic profile instead of a stored API key. That is no longer true. With "console" alone, a developer whose sign-in fails can retry from the error screen and pick the keyless option. Orgs that relied on "console" to make sure every developer gets a real API key now have a gap. Upstream added a whole new section on closing it: deploy forceLoginOrgUUID through managed settings. That fix has side effects (see below), so whoever owns Claude Code policy should read it before rolling it out.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • New authentication.md section, "Stop offering the keyless sign-in on managed machines" (mirrored in iam.md). The fix is to deploy forceLoginOrgUUID, set to the Console org ID, via MDM or managed settings. Side effects once it's deployed:
    • A developer without a role that can create API keys can no longer sign in to Console at /login.
    • Sessions that authenticate with ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN, or apiKeyHelper are refused, even when managed settings supply those credentials.
    • If a profile and an API key are both on the machine, the session is refused. Developers must run claude auth logout or ant auth logout first.
    • claude.ai logins to an org that isn't listed are refused, even one already in use on the machine. To keep one, add it to a forceLoginOrgUUID array.
    • Existing ant auth login profiles still work. The login screen only stops offering the keyless option.
  • settings-reference.md forceLoginMethod entry rewritten to match. "claudeai" still turns off the keyless sign-in. "console" no longer does.
  • Cloud environments: Enterprise users without an org admin role can now add network secrets to their own environments. Before, the "Only an organization admin can add or delete network secrets" lockout applied on Enterprise. Enterprise now gets the same single-host short form that Team users already had. Shared environments still need an Owner.
  • MCP extensions on older protocol versions (content/mcp/extensions/overview.md): a new "Initialization-Based Versions" section. Extensions only became official in 2026-07-28. Clients and servers on 2025-11-25 and earlier are encouraged, but not required, to negotiate them through capabilities.extensions in the initialize handshake. The section includes request and response examples using MCP Apps (io.modelcontextprotocol/ui). It matters for SDK authors who want extensions to work across protocol versions.
  • Noise: 52 support articles changed only because their Intercom image URLs got new signatures. No text changed. The Claude Code version is unchanged at 2.1.312. No deletions, and no tombstone or discovery changes.
