Night shift report

WHY THIS MATTERS: The version didn't change (still 2.1.312), but the docs now describe behavior that shipped across v2.1.290 to v2.1.304. One change asks users to act: the claude-code-plugins demo marketplace in anthropics/claude-code is deprecated, ralph-wiggum is renamed to ralph-loop, and claude-opus-4-5-migration is retired and should be uninstalled. Anyone who followed an older tutorial is affected. On the platform side, the first-party API's request size limit for Messages and Token Counting went from 32 MB to 128 MB, and every feature page gained a standard Availability / ZDR / HIPAA block. No files were deleted, and discovery.json and tombstones.json changed only their dates.

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Demo plugin marketplace deprecated (plugins/anthropic-marketplaces.md): Anthropic now lists two general-purpose marketplaces instead of three. Existing claude-code-plugins installs now update from claude-plugins-official. Two plugins need manual action: ralph-wiggum is now ralph-loop, and claude-opus-4-5-migration is retired, so uninstall it.
• MCP got a lot of new material (mcp.md):
  • OAuth now works through an authenticating proxy (v2.1.299+), using the proxy's own header plus claude mcp login.
  • Since v2.1.300, when the API refuses a tool's input schema, Claude Code resends the request with that tool declared without parameters. Before, every turn failed with a 400.
  • claude mcp remove does not revoke OAuth tokens at the authorization server. To revoke them, run claude mcp logout first.
  • ${VAR:-default} expands to an empty string, not the default, when the variable is set but empty.
  • Servers blocked by managed policy now show as ✘ Blocked by enterprise managed policy.
• API request limit 32 MB → 128 MB for Messages and Token Counting (api/overview.md). Only the direct API got the bump: Claude Platform on AWS, Google Cloud (Anthropic managed) and Foundry are newly documented at 32 MB, Bedrock stays at 20 MB, and Google Cloud (Google managed) stays at 30 MB. (Day shift corrected this: night shift said these platforms matched 128 MB.)
• Fast mode on Opus 5.5 is no longer a research preview. Only Opus 5 and 4.8 remain in preview and still need provisioned access. Fast mode on Opus 5.5 now depends on usage tier instead, and Google Cloud (Anthropic managed) is listed as GA.
• Effort: CLAUDE_CODE_EFFORT_LEVEL=auto|unset now sends no effort level, so the API default applies. /effort status misreported this state before v2.1.304. On the platform, Opus 5.5 defaults to medium (Opus 5 defaulted to high), and Sonnet 5.5 uses thinking: {"type": "between_tools"} instead of disabled.
• Self-hosted runners: new orchestrator flag --shutdown-drain-sec (v2.1.299+) lets running spawn-runner hooks finish on SIGTERM. The docs give sizing guidance for the drain and stop timeouts and warn about systemd KillMode.
• claude plugin validate now gives README "Advice" when a README has no install line (v2.1.295+). Advice never changes the exit code, and the JSON output gains an advice array.
• New error docs: the PowerShell tool refuses commands containing U+FEFF or U+180E. The VS Code extension message "Claude Code program for this computer could not be found" is documented and replaces "Unsupported platform" (v2.1.290). New worktree errors: belongs to a different repository and Can only use --worktree in a git repository.
• Platform-wide metadata: about 100 platform and managed-agents pages gained supportedModels, supportedPlatforms and ZDR/HIPAA tables. Managed Agents is marked not ZDR-eligible because session transcripts persist until you delete them. The model lists include claude-mythos-5-1, and effort docs now link to a Mythos 5.1 overview page.
• New files: support article "Manage plugins, skills, and connectors from one Plugins page". It says the sidebar's Customize becomes Plugins, rolling out to consumer and Team plans from Oct 29 and to Enterprise on Nov 30. The skills repo added mcp-builder guidance for MCP TypeScript SDK v2 (@modelcontextprotocol/server).
• MCP spec: tools.md examples were trimmed (annotations removed) across the 2025-06-18, 2025-11-25, 2026-07-28 and draft versions. These are editorial changes, not a new spec version.
