not sure. here's one that is similar but was fixed in an earlier cups-filters release: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=926576
Expected behaviour
When I print a file to the printer, it should print.
Actual behaviour
Print job failed with "filter error".
cups error logs indicate this is due to ghostscript crashing:

As far as I understand from the log file, you are using Canon's driver for linux. I have also a Canon printer and my printer stopped printing with cups > 2.4. I ended downgrading to cups-2.3.3op2_1 (which I compiled locally with xbps-src) BUT I also compiled Canon's drivers by myself after doing some corrections inside the source files. Thankfully the some libraries worked although source code was not available. It took a lot of debugging.
I would share my instructions but they don't fit your printer, I have an MX920 and the driver is different. I haven't checked it. In my case Canon stopped releasing new versions for the printer since 2013.

what helped me was uninstalling the gutenprint package and install it from source - #43534 (comment)
printing started working right away

tomo90 could you help me a little? I have an epson l120 and the cups log suggest the gutenprint filter failed (cups web interface says "idle - filter failed". I tried installing gutenprint from source and did it successfully but now how do i apply the specific driver on system-printer-config?

@Kakoks I'm not really familiar with system-printer-config. I just configure my printer through CUPS's standard web interface - http://localhost:631
The "Add printer" guide allows you to choose the guttenprint package you compiled and installed previously.

I get the same error on x86_64-musl. It can be solved by building the package with the following patch applied to the template:
I don't have time to try right now which specific one of the removed flags fixes the problem, but building from source works (as mentioned above) exactly because (some of) these flags are not set by default.

This should now be fixed in the 5.3.5 release (pull request #54678), which includes this fix:

When I got this problem, I found it was due to an interaction of void-packages with gutenprint's build system, which led to the path to gutenprint's modules being defined incorrectly as:
This was due to these lines in void-packages which specified libdir on the configure command line in terms of exec_prefix, which gutenprint's configure script put directly into config.h instead of allowing it to have prefix variables substituted.
