AddonUpdates.ApplyAsync copies the live JAR to .packcheck/addon-history/<current name> before UpgradeAdvisor.ApplyUpdateAsync downloads and verifies the update. If the update fails, the previous backup has already been replaced.
Trigger: the update keeps the installed file name, and an earlier update of that file already succeeded. The later download then fails through a network error, cancellation, or a SHA-512 mismatch.
The first update saves Foo.jar v1 to hist/Foo.jar. The live file becomes v2.
The second update copies Foo.jar v2 over hist/Foo.jar, which removes the only copy of v1. The download then fails. The live file stays v2.
Revert finds hist/Foo.jar, copies v2 over the live file, deletes the marker, and reports success. v1 cannot be restored.
The same ordering also writes a .previous marker for a new file name before the file is installed. A failed update leaves that marker behind.
Stage the backup and marker after the download and hash check succeed. Commit them immediately before the live file is deleted. Sanitizing the marker name is a separate correction and does not prevent the overwrite.
This needs a change to the download and commit split in UpgradeAdvisor.ApplyUpdateAsync. A local diff would be unsafe without the other callers of that method, so no patch is proposed.
